Here&#8217;s a sneak peek at some of my inspiration for the story.<\/p>\n<p>The novel\u00a0takes place in a hotel, where a group of writers and artists live. The fascinating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0143039539\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0143039539&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=100books-20&amp;linkId=LZOEDMZDROBSWL2Y\"> Dorothy Parker <\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=100books-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0143039539\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> and her friends who lived at the Algonquin Hotel in New York was a jumping off point.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebelbookclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Dorothy-Parker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-46 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rebelbookclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Dorothy-Parker-274x300.jpg\" alt=\"Dorothy-Parker\" width=\"274\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rebelbookclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Dorothy-Parker-274x300.jpg 274w, http:\/\/www.rebelbookclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Dorothy-Parker.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dorothy Parker<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The character at the middle of it all has some things in common with Mrs.\u00a0Dorothy Parker, including a complicated personality. When I find myself in that situation, I turn to iTunes. I search around until I find an a song or artist that widens my view of who the character is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One of the characters is very tightly wound, which clicked when I randomly listened to Alanis Morrisette. \u00a0The lyrics\u00a0aren&#8217;t important, just the tenseness in the back of her throat. It sounds like she might explode at any moment.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eF9dc3rQSek\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Another&#8217;s personality\u00a0came into focus when I connected that he\u00a0&#8220;sounds&#8221; like\u00a0Cake.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2uwjsG0cRf0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And yet another sounds like Adam Levine&#8217;s nasal, almost whiny singing voice.
